Adelaide City Bars, Pubs and Cafés

Enjoy a drink and a great meal in Adelaide

Adelaide city has more than one hundred pubs and clubs, from warm and cosy to chic sophistication.

Many pubs date back to the 1830s but seamlessly blend the historic with the contemporary. It’s impossible to name them all but here are a few Adelaide favourites.

Adelaide city

Catch some live music at The Exter, The Austral or The Old Exchange. The Stag has one of Adelaide’s best balconies and The Tivoli and The General Havelock are great meeting spots. The Apple Bar is a late night venue and Distill is a twist on Adelaide’s cocktail scene. Relax in style at The Apothecary or Mesa Lunga.

North Adelaide

The Archer, The Oxford and The Lion are icons of North Adelaide. The British and Daniel O’Connell are rich with character and the Queen's Head is one of the area’s oldest pubs. The Wellington has one of the best front bars in North Adelaide and The Caledonian is a lively upmarket option.

Eastern suburbs

The Bath has an ideal outdoor area and The Robin Hood showcases some of Adelaide’s best musical talent. The Edinburgh has a famous garden and both The Colonist and The Oriental have a great atmosphere. The Alma has food for all tastes and The Cremorne prides itself on its service. Boho Bar is a little bit different.

The Adelaide Hills

The Stirling Hotel is a contemporary spot with a casual vibe. Step back in time at the Aldgate Pump Hotel or enjoy the famous wood oven pizza at Grumpy’s. The Lobethal Bierhaus serves dishes to match their beers and The German Arms is rich in history.

Southern suburbs

The Victory Hotel has ocean views and The Avoca Hotel offers the perfect combination of indoor and outdoor. At Glenelg, The Holdfast Hotel does fine dining at reasonable prices, The Grand Bar is an unofficial icon and the Glenelg Pier Hotel is right on the water.

Western suburbs

The Brompton is a traditional local pub, The Birkenhead Tavern is on the banks of the Port River and the Ramsgate Hotel offers comfort and excellent customer service.

Alfresco dining

Adelaide’s warm climate is perfect for alfresco dining, either on one of our bustling “eat streets” or soaking up the sun and sights at a beachfront café.

Visit Glenelg’s Jetty Road or the “other” Jetty Road at Brighton. Try Henley Square at Henley Beach or Semaphore. There’s much more than just fish and chips here.

Inner city dining

City food is concentrated around Gouger Street and Rundle Street. You’ll love the relaxed atmosphere and international menus. In other parts of the city centre, try The Greek on Halifax (street), Goodlife Pizza restaurants on Hutt Street, O’Connell Street and at Glenelg or Cos on Leigh Street.

If you still can’t decide, 5 or 10 minutes in a cab will have you on King William Road at Hyde Park, Unley Road, The Parade at Norwood, Melbourne or O’Connell Streets, both in North Adelaide.

Wherever you go though, there’s a huge choice, with everything from ever popular family owned cafés and restaurants, to well known franchise businesses.
