Park Passes
Fees may apply
Many of South Australia’s parks are free to enter but camping and vehicle entry fees do apply in some.
Single entry passes are available from self-registration stations in parks or at park visitor centres. Single entry passes last for five nights. If you stay overnight in a park, you will also need to pay a camping fee.
If you are travelling to several parks and intend to spend more time than a week in them, consider a Parks Pass. There are a few different passes available. Purchase them from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
Buy a pass
Only staying for a short holiday? Buy a Holiday Pass. Valid for two months, it gives you access to all of the parks, except for Desert Parks and Flinders Chase National Park on Kangaroo Island.
A Single Park Pass gives you entry to one park of your choice, while a Multi Park Pass gives you unlimited entry into most parks. Both are valid for 12 months.
Desert parks
You will need a Desert Parks Pass if you want to visit or camp in Simpson Desert Conservation Park and Regional Reserve, Innamincka Regional Reserve, Coongie Lakes National Park, Lake Eyre National Park, Witjira National Park, Tallaringa Conservation Park or Wabma Kadarbu Mound Springs Conservation Park.
It is best to avoid desert parks in summer, when temperatures can reach 50°C (122°F). Many parks also close on fire ban days. The Country Fire Service provides information on fire restrictions.
Island pass
Buy a Kangaroo Island Pass if you want to access to Flinders Chase National Park and Seal Bay Boardwalk. It also includes guided tours of Seal Bay, Kelly Hill Caves, Cape Borda and Cape Willoughby Lightstations.
